Late Night Fuel Stop

There's something about 2 AM on Sheikh Zayed Road that makes you forget Dubai is a city of millions. The towers are still lit up like a sci-fi movie set, but the lanes are empty - just you, the V4, and that warm desert air that never fully cools down even at night. I pulled into the ADNOC near Business Bay, helmet off, visor fogged from the temperature difference between the AC in my jacket liner and the outside heat. Even in January it's still 22 degrees at night here.

The guy behind the counter already knows my order. Karak chai and a Kit Kat. He doesn't even ask anymore, just nods when he sees the helmet. I think half the petrol station staff in Dubai have a sixth sense for bikers at this hour. We're all doing the same thing - escaping the traffic chaos that owns this city from 7 AM to midnight, finally getting the roads we paid insurance for.

Topped off the tank, pulled back onto SZR heading toward Jebel Ali. There's a stretch past Ibn Battuta where you can actually feel the desert on both sides - no construction walls, no cranes, just flat darkness and the glow of Abu Dhabi somewhere on the horizon. The V4 settles into this gorgeous mid-range growl at 120, and for twenty minutes straight I didn't touch the brakes once. That's the ride. That's why I set an alarm for 1:30 AM on a Tuesday.
