Spoke check after the Solang runs

25.08.2026
The wheels have taken a beating all month on the Solang side, so I finally sat down with the spoke key instead of putting it off again. Went round both rims tapping every spoke with the shank of a screwdriver and listening. Front was mostly fine, two dull ones near the valve. Rear had five gone soft and one that was properly slack.

Quarter turn at a time, opposite pairs, then round again from the start. For run out I taped a zip tie to the swingarm as a pointer and spun the wheel. Old trick, costs nothing, works. Rear had roughly two millimetres of wobble and I got most of it out. Not perfect, but it will hold until the season ends.

Cleaned the grit out of the nipples while I was in there and wiped down both hubs. Took me the better part of two hours for a job that sounds like ten minutes. Worth it though. The back end feels tight again over the broken stretch above Palchan, and that is where you notice it first.

Two hours on the spokes sounds about right for those roads. That zip tie trick is what everyone up here uses, works better than it has any business to 👍
