La prima notte fresca di settembre

Night Ride City Autumn Naked Bike

Maintenance Restoration Garage Café Racer Classic Bike +1

Beim Kettenrad hinten dasselbe in schwaecher.

The Coffee Can Out Past Cottontown

Solo Ride Country Road Story Time Food Stop Cruiser

Last evening of August I ran the Heritage northeast out past Goodlettsville and kept going until the road quit having a shoulder to speak of. Out toward Cottontown, where the fence lines do more work than the pavement does and every mailbox has a name on it that has been standing there longer than the blacktop has. There is a produce stand out that way, if stand is the word for it. Piece of plywood across two sawhorses under a tin roof somebody nailed to four posts, and on the plywood a row of tomatoes, a basket of okra, and four watermelons picked that same day judging by the dirt still on them. Nobody sitting with it. No prices anywhere except one written on a paper plate. Tomatoes two dollars a basket, melons five. And a coffee can with a slot cut in the plastic lid.I shut the motor off,...

The Long Way Up Stockton Hill

Solo Ride Night Ride Desert Sunset Road Therapy

There is a road out of Kingman that most people only use to get somewhere else. Stockton Hill runs north out of town, past the last of the houses and the last of the streetlights, and then it just goes, straight and patient, up toward Dolan Springs and the Joshua trees.I took it Sunday evening with no plan beyond seeing how far the light would hold. The town quits all at once out that way. One minute there are mailboxes and a feed store, the next there is nothing but creosote and the road running out ahead of you like somebody unrolled it and forgot to come back for it.The Joshua trees start about fifteen miles up. People call it a forest and it does not look like one at first, just a few of them standing off at odd angles like they wandered out and got lost. Then there are a hundred. Then...

Out to Samode Before the Heat

Solo Ride Country Road Scenic View India

Sunday, out of the house before six. August is nearly finished and these are the last mornings of the year that are worth getting up for, so I did not want to spend this one at home with tea and the phone.Took the Sikar road out through Chomu. Trucks were still parked along the shoulder with their drivers asleep underneath them, and once past the last set of lights the road opened up completely. The Aravallis after two months of rain do not look like the Aravallis at all. Everything is green, the kind of green that holds for about six weeks and then goes back to brown until next June. Twice there was water still running across the road where the nallahs cross it. Both times slow, both times fine. The Yezdi is a single and it never lets you forget that, but at fifty five or sixty on an empty...
