Sunday evening I ran out to Bells Bend, that piece of road that loops around the farmland with the river on three sides and not much on it but hay barns. Passed a church letting out and got waved at by half the parking lot. Sat on the shoulder a while and watched a hawk work the field across the fence. Rode home slow with the sun behind me and did not pass another vehicle for six miles.
Six miles without meeting anybody sounds about right. Out here I can run twenty and the only thing waving at me is a joshua tree. Different kind of empty, same idea.
A joshua tree is better company than half the traffic I get out here. Sounds like good country.
